A Finish!

I'm still going with those granny squares but here is a recent finish. I'm immodestly pleased with this beauty.

I found the pattern for this quilt in Australian Quilting Magazine more than twelve months ago. Being new to quilting, I had no stash but knew I wanted something unfashionably floral.  I chose, purchased and cut the fabrics immediately but piecing took months. Once finished, the top sat to one side waiting for the perfect backing fabric. Waiting for the perfect backing fabric began to slide into feelings of fear that I wouldn't finish. Not ever.

I chose a backing fabric that would almost do just to get the show back on the road. This is my first attempt at free motion quilting (and my third ever quilt). I used a quite densely concentrated loop-de-loop motif. I wouldn't quilt it as heavily if I had it to do again. (Everything I know about free motion quilting I learned here from the wonderful Amanda Jean.)

I love it! I also love that one day I'll wash this and find out about the crinkly quilty goodness that other's rave about.

15 Squares

The best reason to start a blog is the joy one receives reading other blogs and seeing what talented people produce. It is the only reason.

Two months ago I moved here

With the beach came a new job which at times requires crazy hours.

I needed some crafty leisure to keep me on an even keel. I bought some yarn, watched an excellent series of crochet tutorials on youtube by bethintx1 and am now on my way to producing my first woollen article -a Granny Square rug.

I'll let you know when it is done.
